There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is against the law. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect destination, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 1700, and even though visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is correct of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel building that features a number of amenities aside from the gambling hall, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 gaming tables.
