There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which casino gaming is prohibited. Eight casinos are based in a relatively tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent destination, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, funding sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of most borders.

The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat casino, contains 150 slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that features numerous conveniences in addition to the casino, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
